Our local ecosystems have adapted over time to operate like a well oiled machine. The plants, the animals, the insects, all work together to sustain a complex web of life. When you introduce something new in to that system it throws a kink in to the works and not only can it screw up the system, but it can destroy it entirely. We try to offer native plants whenever we can. Some plants we offer, while not native, are naturalized to our area, meaning they (and the system) have adapted to them being present. We love some of the cool foreign plants just as much as anyone, and there is a time and a place for them, but when given the option, native is the only way to go.
